See, watching the Gun Game in conjunction with my brother from another mother James McKoy, President of the Urban Sharp Shooters; which is a nationally recognized African American Gun Club FOR SERIOUS SELF-DEFENSE (SD) SHOOTERS ONLY. We both have come to the conclusion that there is a Double Standard in the Gun Game that needs to be addressed. Sociologically speaking, I'm referring to the idea of the "Double Consciousness" a Sociological perspective created by Sociologist W.E.B. Du Bois. In his class ground breaking work entitled: "Souls o Black Folk" W.E.B. Du Bois defines the concept of the Double Consciouness as the:
"sense of always looking at one’s self through the eyes of others, of measuring one’s soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity. One ever feels his two-ness,—an American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder."
At VODA and Urban Sharp Shooters only train with REAL GUNS (minus the ammunition) and what we realized is that no one says anything to the guy pictured above right under me by the name of Dave Spaulding, who apparently does the same thing I (not as clean though) - TRAIN WITH REAL GUNS. But even more than that no one says anything in reference to the guys in the following picture below. Pictured are Israeli Combat Point Shooting classes and instructors that use real guns for their training. I guess is they don't want to appear Anti-Semitic.
In fact, no one says shit to Rob Ski of the AK-47 Operators Union, in which he lets off live rounds by the heads of his students.
CORRECTION! THIS IS NOT LARRY VICKERS. AS WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INACCURACY OF THE POST. HOWEVER, THE PRINCIPAL STILL REMAINS THE SAME. TRAIN AS YOU FIGHT.
What we are seeking to understand is that, there is no one way to train, there are many. some people cannot accept. Remember, the more tools you have in you toolbox the more chaos you can create on the battlefield. The images below are taken from the following link:
No one said shit to Travis Hailey when he had his Negligent Discharge on his range. Copy and paste this link:
And no one said shit to James Yeager for the Negligent Discharge that occurred in his range.
Furthermore, no one said shit to Sonny Puzikas who accidentally shot and critically wounded a student of his in a shoot house during one of his training / shooting applications.
So what is the world is going on here? That's right the good old Double Standard. See what we noticed is that no one called the training department of the NRA to get their certifications (toilet paper) taken away (if they were even certified to begin with). In fact, people attempted to hide it from the public and or make light of it, to not mentioning it at all.
Now, we don't want to say "it's because we are African American", but it kind of appears to be that way considering all of these incidents revolve around Caucasian males. But that's none of our business. Remember folks: we train the way we train for a reason and have NEVER had a Negligent Discharge, anyone shot in a VODA session or even a scratch inflicted on ANY VODA Client since we started training people 6 years ago.
It should also be known that I have a deep respect for Larry Vickers as I had the opportunity to personally shake his hand for a brief moment in time here in Fayetteville NC at Elizabeth's Pizza on Skibo Rd. I also have a deep respect, love and admiration for Sonny Puzikas as he is one of the realist I've seen in a very long time. I have a big humbling respect for Rob Ski of the AK-47 Union as he has always kept it real training wise. Even though I may not always agree with James Yeager on everything he does I still respect him as he is a great trainer. I also have respect for Travis Hailey keep doing your thing.
So yes a double standard does exist, but it will not derail us as minority firearm educators and consultants. We only seek to build bridges and discover new techniques and discover more as students of violence. With that being said"
"Train for real life and nothing else".
P.S. For those that are wondering, it is true; the NRA is finished as far as firearm training is concerned. A new era of firearm training is upon us. To be as forthcoming as I can:
"When it comes to Gun-Fighting, the almost irrelevant antiquated firearm training you get from the NRA will get you killed in real life."
For the record in any Gun-fight I've observed, no one ever said:
"If it wasn't for the training I received from the NRA I wouldn't have made it home."
Instead, what I hear is this:
"I did what I had to do so I could make it home."
This denotes the fact that the NRA wasn't even a factor in the success of good guy winning the Gun-Fight. Again, embrace the new era of firearm training because this new era of firearm training isn't going anywhere.
